Flat lashes are eyelash extensions with a flat, rhomboid base
Flat lashes are also known as ellipse. There are several benefits of flat lashes, and they are perfect for use in a classic or hybrid lash extension set. They appear denser and more dramatic than a classic lash of the same weight. If a client wants dramatic lashes but can’t tolerate the weight of regular lashes, flat lashes are a must. Also, clients who have thin lashes can tolerate flat lashes without any damage to their natural lashes.
Because of their shape, ellipse lashes tend to adhere better to the client’s natural lash. Their curve more closely hugs the natural lash, creating a better bond (this is shown in the diagram above). There is no need for excess adhesive when using flat lashes, as they are perfectly shaped to have more contact with the natural lash. Many lash artists have also reported better retention with flat lashes vs. classic lash extensions.
Flat lashes also go by a few different names, including ‘ellipse’ and ‘cashmere’ lashes.
Flat lashes are flat and oval at the base, while classic lashes are round. A flat base means a larger, wider surface, which means extensions will bond more effectively to natural lashes.
Flat lashes are lighter, providing a width of 0.15mm extension without adding weight. The 0.15mm thick flat lashes will feel like 0.07mm regular lashes. This makes flat lashes ideal for clients with naturally thin and/or short lashes.

Due to their unique base shape, flat lashes should be positioned above or below the natural lashes, not to the sides as some conventional lashes may have.
The flat lash is not intended to be used as a complete set but as a complement to other sets to increase volume.
Indeed, flat lashes have a very glossy finish, too many flat lashes come together and you get a fake “plastic” effect.
For a fuller yet natural look, use flat lashes to accentuate other extensions.
